The British government has opened an in-depth investigation into Nvidia’s takeover of British tech company Arm for national security reasons and has thrown another hurdle in the path of the $ 54 billion deal.
Digital and Culture Minister Nadine Dorries has ordered a phase 2 investigation into the transaction out of public interest, which means that it will now be subject to a comprehensive investigation into antitrust and security issues. The UK competition regulator uncovered “serious competition concerns” with the deal in July.
In a letter to the parties released on Tuesday, the government said: “The Foreign Minister believes that the ubiquity of Arm technology makes Arm-IP accessibility and reliability necessary for national security.”
