Brit Council provides Oracle with an additional £10 million for professional services following issues with ERP implementation

Birmingham City Council, Europe’s largest local authority, has awarded Oracle a £10 million contract for additional professional services following a disastrous implementation of Oracle Fusion that led to the council’s bankruptcy last year. The total cost of the project could reach £131 million as the council plans to re-implement the software “off the shelf” after previous custom solutions failed.

Various firms, including Oracle Consulting, Gartner, PwC, and KPMG, have been enlisted to help get the project back on track. In addition to the new Oracle Professional Services award, the council is preparing to launch an acquisition for a new Oracle delivery partner to assist in implementing the initial solution by March 2026.

The Finance and Resources committee of the council has been assured that a more stringent governance process will be in place this time around to oversee the implementation of Oracle. The council is also struggling to make the current system fit for purpose while preparing for the reimplementation of Oracle.
