Somewhere deep in the heart of America, in the backseat of a bus speeding down a godforsaken highway as Walmarts, cemeteries and Civil War battlefields whiz past silently, forgotten and eternal, sits Bob Dylan on his iPad.

In and of itself, this wouldn’t necessarily warrant a comment. Dylan is on the road again, on the final leg of the Rough & Rowdy Ways Tour, which began in the major metropolises of the East in the fall of 2021 and now, almost half a decade later, ends in the dustiest nooks and crannies of the South. Dylan is a man who likes to see the sights, but his current travel destinations – Dothan, Alabama; Tyler, Texas – are so insignificant, so remote, you’d think there were few sights to see. So it seems he passes the time between performances the same way any of us would: by sitting at the computer.

It is what he is do on the computer, it’s so fascinating. A few years ago, Bob began posting birthday messages, eulogies, and various cryptic missives on X.com.
