Thanks to a bizarre middle-of-the-night order from US President Donald Trump, Australians have shut down powerful new AI software.
Anthropic said it cut ties with its most advanced AI models after the Trump administration ordered access to all foreigners blocked.
The US company recently gave Australian companies and individuals access to the cutting-edge models, which it described as “too dangerous” for the general public.
Those with access were in for a rude awakening when Anthropic posted a blog this morning (June 13) confirming that it had received an export control directive from the Trump administration banning access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models by anyone outside the US.
According to Anthropic, the US government declared access to the powerful new models a “national security risk” and believes that the models’ security measures are being circumvented.
The company voluntarily blocks the use of its models to prevent their use in cyberattacks, bioweapons, etc.
