Big tech has big designs in a big cloud.
A steady drumbeat from some of the most influential technology industry leaders has emerged in recent months to fuel the idea that the US government is moving into a “national research cloud“- a hub for US artificial intelligence research where researchers from universities and smaller tech companies can share data sets and other resources.
It is an idea supported by a government commission led by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt and including executives from Amazon, Microsoft and Oracle that recommended the Biden government create a center for US research on artificial intelligence .
