Big AI shopping change coming for CBA and Westpac customers: ‘Australia’s first’

Australians are one step closer to being able to fully automate their online shopping. Global payments giant Mastercard has announced it will expand its agent payments technology to Australia.

The payments company has completed Australia’s first authenticated agent transactions, which are transactions conducted by an “AI agent” using Commonwealth Bank and Westpac cards. Mastercard’s “Agent Pay” technology, which launched in the US last year, allows shoppers to ask an AI agent to search, find and purchase items for them.

Surin Fernando, head of customer solutions center for Mastercard Australasia, said Yahoo Finance Customers were already using AI agents and it was expected that this would become the norm in the future.
