Bhavish Aggarwal urges developers to adopt Ola Maps after leaving Microsoft Azure

Bhavish Aggarwal, the co-founder and chairman of Ola group, recently made headlines by announcing that developers should stop using Google Maps following his departure from Microsoft Azure Cloud. He emphasized the need for India-specific mapping solutions to address unique challenges like street names, urban changes, and complex traffic situations. Ola has now shifted to its in-house system, Ola Maps, for managing taxi operations, a move that is expected to save the company nearly Rs 100 crore annually.

Aggarwal highlighted Ola Maps’ capabilities in terms of location accuracy, search accuracy, search latency, and ETA accuracy, outperforming competitors in these areas. The platform utilizes AI-powered algorithms and real-time data from millions of vehicles to continuously update mapping data. Ola Maps also leverages open-source resources like OpenStreetMap and partnerships to enhance map features such as roads, points of interest, and traffic signs.

In addition to launching Ola Maps, Aggarwal announced an offer of one-year free access to the platform on the Krutrim AI-powered system, along with over Rs 100 crore in free credits for developers. Last month, Ola transitioned all its workload from Microsoft Azure to Krutrim, signaling a full shift to an in-house AI platform.

Meanwhile, Aggarwal criticized LinkedIn for removing his post on “pronoun disease,” accusing the platform’s AI tool of imposing a political ideology on Indian users. He expressed concerns over the tool’s actions and its implications. Ola’s strategic decisions regarding mapping solutions and cloud infrastructure demonstrate its commitment to innovation and self-reliance in the tech industry.
