Beta 2 of Android 15 eliminates time display from Pixel Stand’s Google Photos slideshow

The latest update to Android 15 Beta 2 has removed the time display from Google Photos slideshows when a phone is being charged on the Pixel Stand. Previously, the time and charging status would be shown at the bottom of the slideshow, but now only the album name appears in the bottom right corner.

Additionally, the Google Assistant icon is no longer present on the always-on display for one-touch access, although the Hey Google hotword remains. There have been some issues reported with the preferences app crashing when trying to access screen saver settings in the Display section. Similarly, on Pixel tablets, changes to the screen saver settings via Hub Mode are no longer possible, although previous choices are still accessible.

Under the hood, Android 15 Beta 2 introduces the “Dreams” app/service to phones. This application was originally submitted for the Pixel tablet to enhance the docked screen protector experience. The new version of the Dreams app on Pixel phones, labeled “dreamliner,” is aimed at improving the Pixel Stand experience. Google may be streamlining the operation of similar features by consolidating them under this app.

The user interface for selecting Google Photos albums has been updated and no longer requires going through Assistant. However, some users may miss the convenience of viewing the time on the Pixel Stand, and it is hoped that future updates will bring back this feature.

Overall, the changes in Android 15 Beta 2 impact the way users interact with their Pixel devices, particularly when using the Pixel Stand. The removal of the time display from Google Photos slideshows and the introduction of the Dreams app/service are notable updates that affect the user experience. Adapting to these changes may require some adjustment, but ultimately, they reflect Google’s efforts to improve the functionality and user interface of their devices.
