Starting in July, Microsoft will enforce multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all users signing into Azure to manage resources. After the Azure portal deployment, the MFA app will see a similar deployment for CLI, PowerShell, and Terraform. Customers will receive notifications before MFA goes into effect. Tokens-based automation accounts are excluded. Users like students and guests will only be affected if they sign into specific portals. Administrators are urged to enable MFA before deployment using the MFA wizard for Microsoft Sign in. A Microsoft study shows MFA provides strong security against cyber attacks, with over 99.99% resistance to hacking attempts. Microsoft has announced conditional access policies requiring MFA for all administrators and users of cloud applications. This move aims for 100% MFA adoption. As part of this push, Microsoft-owned GitHub will require two-factor authentication for all active developers by January 2024.
