Azure Application Gateway Now Supports TLS and TCP Protocols – Public Preview | Latest Azure Updates from Microsoft

Azure Application Gateway has introduced support for TLS and TCP protocol termination in public preview. This new feature allows users to utilize Application Gateway for non-HTTP applications that are based on protocols like SQL, MQTT, and AMQP. By enabling this feature, users can utilize a custom domain with Application Gateway’s TLS certificate management capability to establish a secure connection with their clients and access various back-end services.

One of the benefits of this feature is that it provides a single endpoint for all clients. With this new capability, a single Application Gateway resource can support protocols ranging from Layer 7 (HTTP/S) to Layer 4 (TCP and TLS), making it easier for users to manage different types of applications and services through one gateway. This feature is available for Standard V2 and Web Application Firewall V2 SKUs, and users can get started by visiting the documentation.

In practical terms, this means users can now leverage Azure Application Gateway for a wider range of applications that require secure connections beyond traditional HTTP-based applications. With support for TLS and TCP protocol termination, users can ensure a secure connection between clients and back-end services while utilizing a custom domain for added customization and security.

Overall, this new feature expands the capabilities of Azure Application Gateway and allows users to streamline their application delivery and security processes. By providing support for non-HTTP applications and allowing for protocol termination at the TCP level, Azure Application Gateway offers enhanced flexibility and security for users looking to manage a variety of applications and services through a single gateway resource.
