Amazon Web Services helped the US Air Force demonstrate edge computing with the service industry’s new system of situation awareness sensors.
The company announced on Friday that it had participated in the On-Ramp 4 demonstration in Germany, during which the edge computing functions for the USAF’s Advanced Battle Management System were evaluated.
Edge computing refers to when operators bring data right where it is needed. With the AWS Snowball Edge device, ABMS was able to use artificial intelligence and machine learning in a simulated edge scenario.
Juniper Networks helped AWS set up a tactical edge node to showcase AI, DevSecOps, and other modern applications on the edge.
ABMS will serve as the USAF’s contribution to the Joint All Domain Command and Control concept, which the Department of Defense envisions as a network of interconnected sensors and weapon systems in all operational areas.
