AWS provides million in funding to Children’s National and CHOP for AI technology

The National Children’s Research and Innovation Campus in northwest DC has over 2,000 active research projects, but not all receive funding. Amazon Web Services (AWS) donated $1 million to support projects at Children’s National, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and National Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. The donation is focused on advancing artificial intelligence and cloud innovation at Children’s National. The AWS Summit in DC will feature around 300 sessions for technologists in the public sector. The $10 million initiative includes the AWS IMAGINE Award for Innovation in Children’s Health, encouraging organizations to use cloud computing and AI in pediatric health research. Recipients will receive unrestricted funds on a rolling basis and access to AWS training and support. AWS has previously donated $750,000 in cloud computing credits to Children’s National. The funding will support ongoing research projects and technology improvements at the National Children’s Research and Innovation Campus. The campus is experimenting with AI in projects to detect rheumatic heart disease in children and improve treatment outcomes. Leaders are developing policies to ensure patient data remains secure and private. Children’s National Hospital is leveraging technology to achieve its objectives and provide better care for children.
