AWS plans to invest €8.8bn in Germany to address increasing demand for cloud services.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced plans to invest €8.8 billion in Germany, specifically in the Frankfurt region, to meet the increasing demand for cloud services. This investment is in addition to the €7.8 billion commitment made by AWS last month, with the goal of creating its first European sovereign cloud region in Brandenburg by the end of 2025.

The new investment is expected to create over 15,000 new jobs annually in Germany, contributing significantly to the country’s GDP. AWS has been a key player in Germany with offices in various cities and has made substantial investments in the country over the past decade.

AWS is focused on creating skilled roles such as software engineers, systems developers, and solutions architects for its European Sovereign Cloud project. This initiative aims to offer advanced sovereignty controls, privacy safeguards, and security features to its customers in the cloud.

In addition to its investment in Germany, AWS recently announced a $230 million fund to support emerging companies in the generative AI sector. The company also reported strong financial results, with a 13% increase in net sales and nearly doubled operating income for AWS in its latest quarterly earnings report.

This investment in Germany underscores AWS’s commitment to providing top-notch cloud services to its customers in Europe, while creating new job opportunities and driving innovation in the region. Customers and partners are expected to benefit from the enhanced features and capabilities of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud as it continues to expand and evolve.
