Amazon has announced its plans to invest 10 billion euros in Germany as part of its ongoing expansion efforts in Europe. This investment will focus on strengthening the country’s cloud infrastructure by boosting data centers and logistics networks. The expansion of AWS in Germany is expected to create new jobs, facilities, and training opportunities.
The company will create 4,000 jobs by 2024 in three German logistics centers located in Horn-Bad Meinberg, Erfurt, and Großenkneten. With these new recruitment efforts, Amazon’s workforce in Germany is projected to reach 40,000 employees by the end of the year. This 10 billion euro investment is in addition to the 7.8 billion euros already committed by AWS for European sovereign cloud infrastructure. Amazon’s total investment in Germany since 2010 totals 77 billion euros.
Country Manager Rocco Bräuniger emphasized the positive impact of Amazon’s 25-year history in Germany, noting the investments and job opportunities created in various sectors such as research and development, logistics, and customer service. The majority of the latest investment will be allocated to the AWS Europe (Frankfurt) region, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
The economic impact of the investment is expected to be significant, with a projected increase of 15.4 billion euros in Germany’s GDP and the creation of 15,200 full-time jobs per year until 2026. This investment reinforces Amazon’s commitment to Germany and its continued growth and presence in the country.
