Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced its generative artificial intelligence service, Amazon Bedrock, in Mumbai, catering to the entire Asia Pacific region. This service will enable customers, including businesses and public sector organizations, to utilize generative AI and select where to run and store their applications. Amazon Bedrock, which was previously accessible in select regions worldwide, now expands its availability to the Asia Pacific (Mumbai) region.

Amazon Bedrock offers customers a fully managed service, providing a range of high-performance foundation models from AI companies like AI21 Labs, Anthropic, Cohere, Meta, Mistral AI, Stability AI, and Amazon. Through a single API, customers can build generative AI applications securely and efficiently, allowing them to access different models and upgrade to the latest versions with ease.

At the AWS Summit in Bengaluru, Shalini Kapoor, India Director and APJ Chief Technologist at AWS, highlighted the significance of the GenAI service in driving growth for both AWS and its customers. AWS encourages the development of new applications and experiences using GenAI across various industries, aiming to create innovative use cases in sectors such as retail, banking, healthcare, pharmacy, and education. Notable clients already benefiting from Amazon Bedrock include Max Life Insurance and Shellkode.

VG Sundar Ram, Business Development Director at AWS India and South Asia, emphasized Amazon Bedrock’s ability to manage complexity in large datasets efficiently. The availability of the service in India addresses concerns around data privacy and latency, making it a valuable asset for customers looking to avoid cross-border data analysis. AWS’s decision to invest heavily in cloud infrastructure in India further underscores its commitment to meeting the rising demand for cloud services in the country.

Overall, the launch of Amazon Bedrock in Mumbai marks a significant step in AWS’s efforts to empower customers in the Asia Pacific region with advanced generative AI capabilities. By providing a fully managed service and access to high-performance foundation models, AWS aims to drive innovation and create new use cases across various industries, ultimately enhancing the customer experience and accelerating growth for both AWS and its clients.
