AWS Hopes to Achieve

AWS and Broadcom have confirmed their ongoing collaboration despite recent disputes over VMware licenses. Broadcom had publicly announced its decision to stop selling VMware licenses to AWS, accusing the hyperscaler of undercutting the company with its own offer. Hock Tan, the CEO of Broadcom, clarified in a blog post that VMware Cloud on AWS is no longer directly sold by AWS or its resellers. Customers who have already purchased the service from AWS will now have to work with Broadcom or authorized resellers.

In response to speculations about the future of VMware Cloud on AWS, Tan reassured customers that the service remains active and available. AWS had introduced an alternative to VMware‘s software, called “AWS VMware Migration Accelerator,” which included credits and cost reductions for migrating workloads to Amazon EC2. Despite the dispute, AWS expressed its commitment to working closely with Broadcom to serve mutual customers and provide the best cloud services.

Tensions between the two companies escalated after Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware, leading to changes in services and pricing models that sparked criticism from industry stakeholders. Tan had previously announced changes in Broadcom’s pricing model, drawing further backlash from Cloud Infrastructure Providers in Europe (CISPE) who deemed the changes as “anti-cloud.” Despite these challenges, both AWS and Broadcom remain focused on serving customers and offering innovative cloud solutions to meet business needs.
