Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), will become CEO of Amazon in the third quarter of 211. Jeff Bezos steps down into the role of Executive Chair.
Jassy has led AWS since its inception, after joining Amazon in 1997.
In September, the Washington Post – Owner Jeff Bezos – has created a profile on Jassy as the “likely successor” of Bezos. The report cited current and former executives who spoke anonymously about how Jassy’s chances of getting the top job increased after Jeff Wilke, who ran Amazon’s retail business, announced surprising plans to retire in early 2021. It gave no indication that Bezos was resigning.
