“The trust of both officials and the general public is our license to operate. The APS AI plan puts strong governance and transparency at its core, ensuring human oversight is always present.”
This idea that public trust depends on the sovereignty of data and infrastructure was reinforced by Sovereign Australia AI CEO and co-founder Simon Kriss.
“AI will be a core part of government operations in the near future and the government’s initiative to ensure it has reusable and model-agnostic technology is commendable,” he said. “The public will be cautious and they have a right to be.
“We are constantly being asked to put our trust in a model developed overseas where we have no transparency whatsoever about what data was used, how the data was curated, how biased the model was, and more.”
Kriss said it is important that federal government data never leaves our country.
