The federal government has agreed to suspend mandatory guardrails for artificial intelligence and accelerate the rollout of the technology as part of the first national plan published today.
The plan was initially aimed at tightening rules around the rapidly evolving technology amid growing mistrust. Former minister Ed Husic said 10 guardrails were in development last year.
The government has now moved away from that plan, shifting its cautious stance to one that hopes to realize “the full potential of AI.”
The plan will “accelerate the widespread development and adoption of AI” to help all Australians, including Indigenous and regional communities.
