Australia has announced a $1.35 billion deal with Amazon to build secure data centers for top-secret information, boosting its military’s combat capability. The data centers will be located in secret locations and run by an Australian subsidiary of Amazon Web Services as part of Australia’s National Defence Strategy. This initiative aims to enhance the country’s Indo-Pacific security and commitment to a rules-based global order. The project will create a collaborative space for intelligence and defense agencies to store and access sensitive information, promoting greater interoperability with international intelligence partners. The system will use artificial intelligence for security and data recovery. Although the plan carries risks of data breaches, officials assure that highly sensitive national security data will be safely protected. The top-secret cloud is expected to be operational by 2027, providing a platform for the exchange of classified data between Australia’s intelligence community and defense force.
