The Australian Government has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enhance cybersecurity capabilities with a $2 billion investment over the next decade. The collaboration includes establishing a top-secret AWS cloud infrastructure in Australia to securely store and analyze sensitive intelligence data. This initiative is expected to create up to 2,000 local jobs and strengthen the Department of Defence’s communications networks while promoting closer ties with allied countries like the UK and US.

Defence Minister Richard Marles emphasized the importance of the partnership in enhancing interoperability with the US and ensuring a more resilient and powerful defence force in the future. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted the significance of this investment in strengthening national defence and intelligence capabilities to address complex security challenges and protect Australians.

AWS plans to involve local businesses in the design and construction of the TS Cloud, creating opportunities for innovation in cybersecurity, data analytics, and cloud computing within Australia. The company has also committed to additional infrastructure investments in the country, further supporting job creation efforts.
