Australia has gained access to a sophisticated artificial intelligence system deemed too dangerous to release as the federal government is urged to respond more quickly to the risks and opportunities of AI.
Several private companies and the government are among 150 other organizations in 15 countries that have been granted use of Anthropic’s Claude Mythos Preview AI model, which the U.S. company has not made widely available due to its cybersecurity capabilities.
Australia’s inclusion in Anthropic’s “Project Glasswing” on Wednesday was welcomed by the country’s cybersecurity agency, but the government declined to confirm details of its Mythos access.
The Labor Party is also being urged by an independent MP to step up its efforts to keep up with rapid advances in AI that are impacting the economy, jobs and national security.
