A groundbreaking Australian invention that promises to transform global shipping efficiency has made its maiden voyage aboard Aurora Expeditions’ newest ship Douglas Mawson.
Developed by Sydney start-up CounterCurrent, the innovation uses artificial intelligence, satellite data and dual-sensor weather stations to map dynamic ocean currents and suggest course adjustments in real time.
Early modeling suggests the system can save up to 5% fuel on long routes, potentially cutting millions of dollars in costs for commercial fleets and reducing emissions in one of the world’s hardest industries to decarbonize.
