The Australian Taxation Office has issued draft CEO directions to all 21,493 employees on the approved uses and limitations of generative artificial intelligence in the workplace.
The guidance comes as the federal government accelerates the rollout of the controversial technology across the Australian public service.
With Public Service Minister Katy Gallagher revealing on Wednesday that the Treasury will effectively provide a central command and support body for APS AI deployments – within specified boundaries, use cases, locations and raw materials – the ATO’s draft guidance from the agency’s head, Tax Commissioner Rob Heferen, is likely to provide a central template for other agencies to follow.
