Australian software company Atlassian is desperate to find tenants for its 40-storey Sydney tower as it cuts 1,600 jobs and its share price is a third of what it was this time last year.
The skyscraper – built with developers Dexus – was a key part of Atlassian boss Mike Cannon-Brookes’ vision for a bustling tech district in the heart of Sydney.

In early 2025, Cannon-Brookes told The Australian that Atlassian was “such a big supporter of Tech Central – the new home of our tech industry.”
“A district without people is just buildings, it’s not a community,” he said.
The company was at the height of its power when the two companies began work on “Atlassian Central” in 2021, when the company was nearing a market cap of nearly $100 billion.
The tech giant has made a 15-year commitment as part of Cannon-Brookes’ vision to be at the forefront.
