PC makers are gearing up for an eventful fall as new AMD processors and motherboards are set to be released in July, followed closely by Intel’s next generation CPUs and motherboards known as “Arrow Lake.” At Computex 2024, ASRock showcased over a dozen new motherboards, including those for AMD’s X870 and X870E chipsets, which offer improved features like M.2 PCIe 5.0 x4 slots and native USB4 support.
One standout motherboard from ASRock is the X870E Taichi, equipped with two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, Wi-Fi 7 controller, and a unique design. It boasts a top-notch power design with 27 power phases capable of handling up to 110 amps of current. On the Intel front, ASRock provided a sneak peek at their upcoming Arrow Lake processors, hinting at a new socket identified as “LGA 1851” distinct from current LGA-17XX sockets.
Intel has yet to disclose details about the Arrow Lake chipset, but ASRock displayed a range of motherboard prices with varying features, such as the Taichi Aqua model designed for custom water cooling. Many of these boards support M.2 slots with PCIe 5.0 x4 connections, delivering a significant improvement over existing Intel motherboards. Additionally, ASRock showcased a prototype board, Taichi OCF CAMM2, exploring a unique single-module form factor.
A notable feature on these boards is the large easy release mechanism on the main PCI Express x16 slots, providing a user-friendly experience for installing and removing video cards. ASRock’s innovative approach to desktop motherboards was evident in their development of boards like Taichi OCF CAMM2 and Taichi Aqua.
Overall, the upcoming releases from AMD and Intel promise exciting advancements in motherboard technology with enhanced features and capabilities. Stay tuned for more in-depth reviews and analysis of these new models as they hit the market later this year.
