Arqit has entered into a partnership with Intel, where Arqit will serve as an independent software vendor (ISV) to Intel. Under the deal, Intel will sell Arqit’s technology on a revenue-sharing basis, with Arqit’s symmetric key agreement platform being integrated into Intel Xeon D-based network cards and server infrastructure. The joint products of Intel and Arqit are already available, and major telecommunications companies are in the process of implementing this technology.

Arqit expressed their excitement about working with Intel and stated that the ISV certification marks the beginning of a global go-to-market strategy. The partnership between Arqit and Intel originally started with testing quantum key technology, but has now evolved into a full commercial partnership. With the advancement of quantum computing, traditional data encryption methods are becoming less effective, leading to the exploration of new techniques like post-quantum cryptography.

Arqit CEO David Williams explained that symmetric encryption is considered the gold standard for post-quantum protection, as it involves parties sharing randomly created keys for data access rather than solving mathematical problems. This method is further strengthened by dynamic rotating authentication, minimizing the window for exploitation even if a third party gains access to the key.

The implementation of a quantum-safe solution by Intel in their networking chips is a significant step forward for Arqit’s market segment, as the threat posed by quantum decryption is already present. Despite the full development of quantum computers still being a few years away, malicious actors may already be storing data for future decryption. Intel stresses the importance of implementing post-quantum encryption now to stay ahead of potential decryption capabilities.

The urgency to protect data from quantum computing threats has been highlighted by recent executive orders and White House memos. Intel believes that the industry as a whole must take proactive steps to safeguard data from potential risks associated with quantum computing.
