First of all, it’s important to know that William Lunsford, a lawyer at Butler Snow’s office in Huntsville, is Alabama’s go-to guy for defending its prisons and their leaders.

The state has paid him $42 million for his expertise since 2020, according to state records, and is slated to pay him much more.
