TheThe public beta is live now, for those who can’t wait to check out Apple’s latest iPhone software update before its general release this fall. (Here is , and .) But like all beta releases, this early version of iOS 15 has a number of bugs that Apple disclosed in its release notes – and there are likely more that aren’t listed yet.
As always, we never recommend downloading a beta version of any software on your primary device due to bugs. In the case of iOS 15, you should only download this public beta if you have a second iPhone to use for testing – not on your main phone.
Here are some of the issues to watch out for in the iOS 15 Public Beta and some workarounds from Apple. (If you download the beta and find that you don’t like it or you have too many battery life issues and other bugs, you can.)
iOS 15 error
Here are some of the bigger issues you may find in iOS 15 Release Notes for Apple Developers.
The Finder may stop responding
If you install iOS 15 public beta using Restore Images, your Finder may not work properly. Apple’s workaround is to install device support for iOS 15 Beta, available as of Beta software downloads from Apple Page.
Live text may not be available in the camera app. And when your iPhone is in sleep mode, Apple says Panorama mode can “produce unexpected results.” No workarounds were listed.
If you are sharing your screen in a SharePlay session, your phone may fail to connect to CarPlay. Apple recommends stopping screen sharing before connecting your phone.
Files are terminated
If you select Open in New Window for a file, that file might exit unexpectedly.
Find my network problems
In the iOS 15 beta, Notify me if left behind is not supported for Intel-based Macs or Apple Watches. In addition, the text indicating that Find My Network is active when your iOS device needs charging will only be displayed if your device language is set to English.
Home screen widget issues
Apple identified a few different issues with widgets in the public beta. When you select a category in the Widget Gallery, the wrong category may appear. In this case, you should close the gallery and reopen it. The home screen may also exit unexpectedly when you drag a widget from the gallery.
SharePlay unavailable message
Apple identified several different issues with SharePlay in beta, including the fact that it may not be available. (Try signing out of FaceTime, and if so signing in again.) If more than five people are on the phone, performance may decrease. On some devices, your FaceTime camera might turn off when a screen sharing session begins.
