This story is part of . The latest coverage from Apple’s annual developer conference.
Apples The global developer conference will take place from June 7th to 11th and will take place entirely online like last year WWDC. The biggest news is expected on Monday, June 7th, as part of a keynote with a preview of Apple’s next operating systems, which are expected to be iOS 15, iPadOS 15, MacOS 12, WatchOS 8 and TVOS 15. It could be hardware announcements like the follow-up to Apple’s M1 chip and new “Pro” Macs. The M-Series, which is part of Apple Silicon, was announced at WWDC 2020 and is an integral part of the company’s transition from use Intel Processors in Macs.
The week of virtual meetings is overshadowed by the Coronavirus Pandemic. WWDC previews the next operating systems for your iPhone, Mac, and other Apple devices, and gives software developers early access to explore new features with the help of Apple engineers.
WWDC 2021 announcement Easter eggs
Apples Announcement for WWDC came with a picture and animation of a Memoji character looking at an open MacBook. The image is a nod to memes that popped up afterward Apple’s November event for Macs where the company’s senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi showed how Macs can wake up instantly with the M1 chip. The video was taken from the Barry White song Play your game, baby and was reasonably cheesy.
The slogan for WWDC 2021 is “Glow and behold”. Usually Invitations and announcements for Apple events include Easter eggs. Could the fact that the Memoji wears glasses with a reflection of software elements be an incentive for that? heavily rumored Apple AR glasses? Or maybe “glow” is an indication of the headlights being on the rumored Apple car? Or maybe that The photo with its animation is just an allusion to new MacOS functions and its dock?
New hardware announcements have a consistently inconsistent history at WWDC. In the past few years, Apple has shared one extensive revision of several key products and teased for upcoming Mac hardware. However, when Apple plans a new product like AR glasses, it needs software (ROS anyone?) and developers to make apps for it.
WWDC 2021 will contain the next version of iOS / iPadOS
It should be the next iPhone called the iPhone 13, will probably not be released until the fall. However, a new version of the iPhone operating system is expected to be released, likely iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 for the iPad.
Last year, iOS 14 included New adjustments for the home screen, picture-in-picture video, better widgets, a new one Siri User interface and app library, a new way to organize your apps. iOS 15 rumors point to new notification settings based on your current activity, more Adjustments and interactions for widgets and new iMessage features that could make it competitive with WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
iPadOS 15 could add home screen customizations, and widgets don’t move to the widget stack and have more iPhone-like controls.
Apple started new iPads last fall and a new iPad Pro with the M1 chip in AprilHowever, the distinction between “Pro” and non-“Pro” models is based more on hardware differences than software. It would be great to see more iPadOS features that “Pro” users support.
What is MacOS 12 called?
One of the revelations Apple fans are enjoying is the name for the next version of MacOS. Mac OS X versions have been named after big cats like Snow Leopard and Lion for years. In 2014, with the release of OS X 10.10, Apple began naming the software after notable California landmarks like Yosemite and, most recently, Big Sur. Maybe the next one is called MacOS Monterey? Or macOS Golden Gate? Maybe macOS Hollywood sign? Yeah i have no idea
It could be that MacOS 12 will be a minor update that focuses on changes under the hood. M1 chips are about to celebrate their first birthday, and macOS currently has to support it as well as Intel-based Macs. However, that points to a bigger question: where are the M1 Pro machines? It is not clear whether there will be a new version of the M1 chip or an “X” version of the processor at WWDC21. But many of us are hoping for a shiny new MacBook Pro that features the “Pro” version of the M-series chip.
WatchOS 8 could bring new health functions
In addition to the iPhone and computers, expect software updates for the. As with MacOS, hardly any details have leaked on WatchOS 8. However, there have been several lingering rumors in recent years that have not yet materialized.
One Rumor from over a year agois the inclusion of mental health characteristics. For example the The Apple Watch 6 has a pulse oximeter This, along with heart rate readings, could be used to detect high levels of stress and even panic attacks.
Another rumor from 2017 Evidence that the Apple Watch can monitor blood sugar levels. However, this seems to be a feature that will be revealed when the next Apple Watch launches likely require new hardware such as a spectrometer to take the measurements.
One feature many of us are hoping for is removing the Apple Watch’s dependency on the iPhone. We saw that iPhone divorced Mac with iOS 5 in 2011. It’s not clear what hardware and software it would take to achieve this, but it would open the Apple Watch to people without iOS devices.
