04/21 Update below. This post was originally published on April 20th
Many of the biggest upgrades in Apple’s iPhone 13 series have leaked in the last weeks and today Apple confirmed the launch of a new iPhone that surprised everyone. But it’s not what you were hoping for.
In one Press releaseThe company has confirmed the launch of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini models in a “brand new breathtaking purple finish.” The company also confirmed the prices, release date, and new accessories.
04/21 Update: Apple notes that the new purple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini will ship with iOS 14.5. However, the company has tacitly announced that this software update is expected to arrive before both phones hit store shelves (via The edge). While excluded from the iPhone release statement, it’s buried in the fine print Apple TV 4K announcement is the giveaway: “Requires an iPhone with Face ID running iOS 14.5 or higher and is available for Apple TV 4K (1st generation and higher) and Apple TV HD with tvOS 14.5. These software updates will be available next week. “IOS 14.5 is a major upgrade for iPhone owners, with Apple Watch unlocking (with Face ID disrupted by face masks), a brand new Apple Podcasts experience with ad-free subscriptions, new emoji, and support for the new Apple AirTag tracker. You can expect my iOS 14.5 review and bug rating within 24 hours of its release.
“The purple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will be available for pre-order starting Friday April 23rd. Availability will begin on Friday April 30th,” said Apple. “Customers can also add a new MagSafe leather case or case in Deep Violet to their iPhone, a silicone case in Capri Blue, Pistachio, Cantaloupe or Amethyst or a leather wallet in Arizona, all of which can be ordered from today.”
Prices start again at $ 699 (iPhone 12 Mini) and $ 799 (iPhone 12). Like current models, these phones cost $ 729 and $ 829, respectively, when purchased without a SIM card. It’s also worth noting that they don’t come with a charger ($ 19) or Lightning to USB-C charging cable (1 m $ 192 m $ 35). Switching to an OLED display also means a 40% more for screen repairs Therefore, an AppleCare Plus plan is almost essential, so your total spend will be over $ 1,000 (including tax).
Hence in the face of Apple accelerated iPhone 13 developmentYou may have a little more than five months to wait. Considering the new generation is understood to deliver oversized new cameras, Portrait video, a smaller notch, Upgrade WiFi, global support for super fast 5G mmWave, increased energy efficiency and ProMotion is displayed on Pro models and a another new color (unless you urgently need an upgrade) the smart money is waiting.
