Apple says it is planning a major overhaul of Siri that will transform the voice assistant into an AI chatbot built right into its iPhone and Mac Bloomberg Reporter Mark Gurman. The update will reportedly arrive later this year and will replace the existing Siri interface, allowing users to interact with the assistant through both typing and speaking, similar to chatbots from Google, OpenAI, Anthropic and others.
As noted by BloombergThis change is separate from the AI-powered personalization features coming to Siri in the next few months. Like this updated version of Siri, the chatbot will reportedly use a custom Google Gemini AI model as part of the multi-year partnership both companies announced earlier this year, although this version will have features that “significantly exceed” its AI personalization capabilities.
