The day that many have feared is finally here. Apple added a notch to its new MacBook Pros. And somehow Apple – notch pros at this point – managed to completely botch the notch. Because the new MacBook Pros have completely missed the most important part of the notch: Add Face ID.
I’ve found I’m extremely pro-MacBook notch: Back in 2018, I argued that Apple should Do exactly what you’re doing here: add a notch to your MacBook laptops and take the exact width of the persistent menu bar that already lives permanently on top of the macOS software (aside from the occasional dipping into a full-screen App).
And to be fair, Apple updated most of the benefits of a notch: smaller bezels, especially at the top of the display, which allow Apple to play at least in the same stadium (if not quite the same level) as the ultra-thin bezels that have become the norm on premium Windows laptops from companies like HP or Dell.
