AOOSTAR has introduced a new desktop computer called WTR Pro, designed for use as a network attached storage (NAS) device. It can support up to four 3.5-inch hard drives or SSDs and has an M.2 slot for an optional PCIe NVMe SSD. The system features an Intel N100 Alder Lake-N processor, the ability to connect up to three 4K displays, and two 2.5GbE Ethernet ports. Pre-orders for the AOOSTAR WTR Pro will begin on July 1, 2024, with prices starting from $279 for a basic model without memory, storage, or an operating system.

Additionally, AOOSTAR will offer models with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD for $359, or a 32GB/1TB version for $429. These models will come preinstalled with Windows 11 Pro, but users will need to provide their own hard drives. Unlike other NAS systems, AOOSTAR does not provide its own operating system, leaving users the option to install TrueNAS, OpenMediaVault, or Proxmox. However, AOOSTAR does not offer support for these operating systems, so setup may be more complex compared to pre-configured solutions from other companies.

The AOOSTAR WTR Pro is equipped with a 6-watt, 4-core, 4-thread Intel N100 processor, a SODIMM slot for up to 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory, and an M.2 2280 slot for PCIe NVMe storage. The four drive bays can accommodate 2.5- or 3.5-inch drives, which can be easily accessed by removing a magnetic panel. However, the drives are not hot-swappable, and users must shut down the computer before removing a drive. The system is designed to be operational 24/7, with a special function allowing the WTR Pro logo to slide over the power button to prevent accidental shutdowns.

The compact AOOSTAR WTR Pro measures 228 x 150 x 185mm (9″ x 5.9″ x 7.2″) and features a 120mm fan for active cooling. It also includes a variety of ports on the side of the system, such as HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, USB Type-C, USB 3.2 Type-A, USB 2.0 Type-A, 2.5GbE Ethernet, audio, microSD card reader, and a DC power connector. The system is equipped with a wireless card compatible with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.

Overall, the AOOSTAR WTR Pro offers competitive pricing for users looking to build a NAS or home server. However, with no pre-installed operating system and limited support, it may require more technical expertise to set up compared to solutions from established NAS hardware companies.
