Shark Tank India judge and Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal weighed in on Oracle’s decision to lay off around 12,000 employees and said the move should not be interpreted as a sign of financial distress.

In a post quoted by the Times of India, Mittal said the job cuts reflected a broader shift in the way big tech companies are restructuring their operations rather than responding to crisis conditions.

“The 12,000 wasn’t cut because the ship sank. It was cut because the ship learned to sail itself,” Mittal said, according to the report.

His comments come in the backdrop of Oracle’s reported layoffs in India and revocation of job offers to candidates from leading engineering institutes, including IITs and NITs. The development has sparked a wider debate in the technology sector about the impact of automation and artificial intelligence on workforce planning.
