Protesters from a long list of pressure groups plan to spend a hot Thursday afternoon opposing the ICE in Arlington.
The protest is due to begin today (Thursday) at 4 p.m. outside the District Government Headquarters at 2100 Clarendon Blvd in the courthouse.
The problem: Arlington police notify the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of undocumented suspects under certain circumstances, and the sheriff’s office clears ICE’s notification of inmates for whom an inmate has been signed by a judge.
The La ColectiVA group has led the indictment for the past few months in an attempt to get Arlington County officials to end such practices. Today’s protest also targets the county’s relationship with Amazon, which hosts ICE and its contractors through its cloud computing arm, Amazon Web Services.
