May 21 (Reuters) – Anthropic is in talks to lease servers powered by Microsoft-developed chips to meet rising demand for its AI services, The Information reported on Thursday, in a move that would provide a major boost to the tech giant’s internal chip efforts.
The Claude inventor’s discussions about leasing the chips are still in their early stages and may not result in an agreement, the report said, citing two people who spoke to executives involved in the discussions.
Microsoft and Anthropic did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment. Shares of the Windows maker, which have fallen about 10% for the year, rose 1% following the news.
Landing at Anthropic will be a big win for Microsoft’s efforts to emulate the success of Alphabet and Amazon with custom chips, which have built major companies that rent processors originally intended for internal use to AI startups.
