Anthropic said Friday that it has blocked access to two powerful artificial intelligence (AI) models following a U.S. government order citing national security concerns.

The sudden blockage marks a significant escalation in Anthropic’s growing showdown with the Trump administration after negotiations over the possible use of its technology by the US military and intelligence failed earlier this year.

The order potentially represents a major setback to Anthropic’s plans to take the company public later this year.
