American Legislators and Nvidia CEO Visit Taiwan Following Chinese Military Exercises

A group of bipartisan U.S. lawmakers, led by Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, visited Taiwan in the wake of China’s large military exercise near the island. The delegation, including Rep. Young Kim, R-Calif.; Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C.; Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif.; Rep. Andy Barr, R-Kentucky, and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa., met with President Lai Ching-te to discuss peace, trade relations, and other issues. The visit comes as tensions between the U.S. and China escalate, with the State Department accusing China of military provocations in the region.

At the same time, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang arrived in Taipei for an upcoming technology expo, highlighting Taiwan’s importance in the global AI supply chain. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. produces cutting-edge chips for companies like Nvidia, making Taiwan a critical player in the tech industry. Huang emphasized Taiwan’s central role in the technology supply chain and its continued significance in the future.

The delegation’s visit to Taiwan is part of a broader trip to the Indo-Pacific region, demonstrating U.S. support for its allies amidst growing geopolitical challenges. The visit underscores the importance of Taiwan in the tech industry and the need for cooperation to maintain peace and stability in the region.
