Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is intensifying its efforts to become a central player in the artificial intelligence infrastructure race. The semiconductor giant has unveiled two significant strategic agreements in rapid succession: a substantial supply deal with Meta Platforms and a multi-year enterprise alliance with Nutanix. These moves signal a concerted push to position the company as a viable multi-vendor alternative for AI compute, extending beyond its traditional CPU strength into the critical arenas of AI-specific GPUs and supporting software stacks.

A Landmark Agreement with Meta

The cornerstone of this push is a multi-generation, 6-gigawatt agreement to supply Meta’s next-generation AI infrastructure with AMD Instinct accelerators. Shipments for the first phase of this deployment are scheduled to commence in the second half of 2026. The arrangement will see Meta utilize a custom Instinct GPU based on the forthcoming MI450 architecture, integrated with AMD’s 6th Gen EPYC “Venice” server processors, the ROCm software platform, and AMD’s “Helios” rack-scale design.
