Update July 21, 8:11 p.m. ET: After we first published this story, Amazon made the following statement confirming that it had two customer service reports of 3090 outages due to. being checked New world:
We have two customer service reports on this that we’re following up and some reports of high GPU usage from forums compatible with a graphically rich game. We offer user selectable settings to reduce the graphics, which will reduce the GPU load accordingly if the gamer so desires.
The original story is below.
The closed beta for the new MMO from Amazon Games New world has been tarnished by reports that the game has been bricked up Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics cards from some players. In a statement shared on Wednesday, Amazon says it has “seen no evidence of widespread problems with the 3090s” but will release a patch anyway.
Here is the full statement from Amazon that was shared with The edge On Wednesday:
Hundreds of thousands of people played the New World Closed Beta yesterday, with millions of hours played in total. We have had some reports from players using high performance graphics cards and having hardware failures while playing New World.
New World makes standard DirectX calls as provided by the Windows API. We saw no evidence of widespread problems with the 3090s either in beta or during our months of alpha testing.
The New World Closed Beta is safe to play. To keep players calm, we’re going to implement a patch today that will limit frames per second on our menu screen. We appreciate the support New World has received from players around the world and will continue to hear their feedback during the beta and beyond.
However, the language in Amazon’s statement doesn’t completely rule out the possibility of the game causing problems. In particular, the phrase “no reference to” widespread Problems ”(emphasis added) suggests that there might be some problems, and since we don’t know how broad or narrowly Amazon defines“ widespread ”, we can’t be sure how many cards the company has determined to be affected could be.
Many of the bricked cards appear to be made by EVGA based on reports in a thread on the New world subreddit. And EVGA card issues can happen earlier than beta than a gamer on the New world Forums said they had an EVGA card die on them during the alpha of the game and a die on them during this beta.
EVGA did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but a company representative told Windows headquarters The “At the moment we are dealing with specific problems, if it is a really confirmed problem we will be you in ours EVGA forums on our website. “But if you’ve got a 3090 card of any kind, you might want to wait for the Amazon patch to go out just in case.
The New world The closed beta will run until August 2nd. If you’d like to try it out, you can pre-order the game to receive an invite or sign up for an opportunity to access via this page. The game is slated for release on August 31st after numerous delays.
