Amazon is reportedly developing a new AI tool called Metis to compete with ChatGPT, a popular conversational robot. Metis will provide text- and image-based answers to user queries and suggest follow-up questions, powered by Amazon’s in-house AI model “Olympus.” The chatbot is expected to launch in September and will incorporate Recovery Augmented Generation (RAG) to optimize responses. Metis will also act as an artificial intelligence agent, automating tasks and integrating with Alexa. Amazon faces stiff competition from Microsoft and Google in the AI market, and the success of Metis will depend on its ability to deliver superior results and overcome challenges posed by existing open-source models. The use of RAG could be a key differentiator for Amazon in capturing market share.
