Amazon’s cloud services business is launching a new healthcare accelerator for startups. The four-week program, called the AWS Healthcare Accelerator, will select 10 startups that use cloud technology to respond to healthcare challenges.

“The program is tailored to accelerate growth in the cloud, with an emphasis on solutions such as remote patient monitoring, voice technology, analytics, patient engagement and virtual care,” said Sandy Carter, vice president of Worldwide Public Sector Partners and Programs for AWS, wrote in a blog post on Monday announcing the accelerator.

It’s the first time Amazon has rolled out a digital health accelerator, but it doesn’t come as a surprise given the online retailer’s recent moves to expand its presence in the healthcare sector.
