Amazon’s AWS Cloud division has announced a remarkable addition to its free tier, increasing the amount of data that customers from AWS Regions can transfer to the internet and from their CloudFront Content Delivery Network (CDN) before they have to begin paying.

This step is intended to counter the growing criticism of excessive data transfer fees and the competitive steps of other cloud companies. It also serves to keep smaller customers on board as they – and their cloud infrastructure requirements – grow.
