Amazon has revealed its plan to invest 10 billion euros in Europe, focusing on expanding its cloud services and retail products in Germany. The majority of the investment, 8.8 billion euros, will be dedicated to growing its cloud infrastructure service, Amazon Web Services (AWS), with a focus on AI technologies. This move comes as demand for cloud services continues to rise in Europe’s largest economy.
The investment is expected to create over 4,000 jobs in Germany this year and has been praised by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as a sign of the country’s appeal to investors. Germany is currently facing economic challenges, including high energy costs and interest rates, as well as a lack of investment due to bureaucratic hurdles.
This investment brings Amazon’s total planned investment in Germany to 17.8 billion euros. Additionally, AWS is reportedly considering similar investments in Italy to expand its data centers.
Overall, Amazon’s significant investment in Europe demonstrates its commitment to expanding its presence in the region and taking advantage of the growing demand for cloud services and AI technologies.
