According to Amazon, the market-leading cloud business – Amazon Web Services (AWS) – rose 32 percent to $ 13.50 billion in the first quarter of 2021.

The AWS entity revenue was 12 percent of Amazon’s total revenue.

AWS posted $ 4.16 billion in operating income for the first quarter, accounting for nearly 47 percent of Amazon’s total operating income. The operating margin rose from 28 percent in the previous quarter to 30.8 percent.

“We firmly believe that we have many benefits for AWS customers, from functionality to a dynamic and robust partner ecosystem,” said Brian Olsavsky, Amazon’s chief financial officer, in a conference call with analysts.

Amazon previously said that AWS head Andy Jassy would replace Jeff Bezos as CEO of Amazon and that former AWS executive Adam Selipsky would leave his position as head of Salesforce’s Tableau business to lead AWS.
