Amazon Web Services (AWS) India recently announced the launch of the AWS Space Accelerator: India program, aimed at supporting 24 promising space technology startups in the country. The 14-week program will provide technical expertise, specialized training, and mentorship to foster innovation in the space sector. This initiative was established as a result of an MoU signed between AWS, Isro, and India’s National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) in 2023 to drive the growth of space startups in India.

Clint Crosier, Director of Aerospace and Satellite Business at AWS, highlighted the tremendous growth opportunities in the Indian space sector, noting the increasing number of startups, government support, and skilled workforce in space technologies. The selected startups cover various space segments, including spacecraft propulsion, launch vehicles, satellite imaging, geospatial applications, and space tourism. Participants come from different regions such as Thoothukudi, Port Blair, and Ahmedabad, showcasing the diverse innovation in the country.

During the program, the startups will receive mentoring, training, and up to $100,000 collectively in AWS credits to aid in building and scaling their solutions. The accelerator program is supported by T-Hub, an innovation hub, and Minfy, an AWS Premier Partner. Startups were chosen based on the uniqueness of their solutions, product-market fit, innovation, sustainability, creative use of AWS technology, and their ability to execute their vision, according to AWS.

With the launch of this program, AWS aims to empower and nurture the next generation of space technology startups in India, providing them with the necessary resources and guidance to succeed in the competitive industry. The collaboration between AWS, Isro, and IN-SPACe demonstrates the commitment to fostering innovation and driving the growth of the space sector in the country.

Overall, the AWS Space Accelerator: India program marks a significant milestone in supporting the burgeoning space technology ecosystem in India, offering promising startups the opportunity to thrive and contribute to the advancement of the space industry.
