Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a significant investment of 15.7 billion euros to expand its data centers in Huesca, El Burgo de Ebro, and Villanueva de Gállego in Zaragoza, as well as establish a new location in Zaragoza. This investment is expected to generate 6,800 new jobs in the region and is the largest technological investment in Spain and southern Europe to date.

Jorge Azcón, the President of the Government of Aragon, described the investment as a unique milestone in the region and Spain’s technological history. He believes that this investment positions Aragon as a prominent technological hub not only in Spain but also on a continental and global scale.

Suzana Curic, the general director of AWS in Spain and Portugal, expressed that Aragon was the preferred choice for locating their data centers. This investment of 15.7 billion euros significantly surpasses the company’s initial plan announced in 2021, which had outlined an investment of 2.5 billion euros and the creation of 1,300 jobs.

This strategic decision by AWS underscores their commitment to further expand their presence in Spain and leverage the region’s potential as a key player in the technological landscape. The announcement of this investment marks a significant boost for the economy of Aragon and reinforces its position as a leading destination for tech investments.

Overall, the investment made by AWS not only signals a major step towards enhancing their infrastructure and services in Spain but also highlights the growing importance of the region in the global technological ecosystem. With the creation of thousands of new jobs and the establishment of cutting-edge data centers, this investment is set to have a transformative impact on both the local economy and the technological sector in the region.
