Amazon Q Apps, launched in April 2024 alongside Amazon Q Business, allows users to create AI-powered applications based on their organization’s data. Users can build these applications using natural language and securely publish them for others to use. Following feedback during the preview, Amazon Q Apps is now generally available with new features such as an API and the ability to specify data sources at the card level.
To get started with Amazon Q Apps, users can generate an app from a conversation with Amazon Q Business. For example, users can create an Amazon Q App to generate a product overview based on a product description. The app intelligently captures the conversation context and generates the app tailored to specific needs.
Users can also build generative AI applications using natural language by describing the app they want to create or using pre-built examples. Once satisfied with their designs, users can publish their apps to a centralized library for other Amazon Q Business users to access. The apps inherit robust security controls to ensure data sources and permissions are maintained.
In the app library, users can customize existing apps to meet their specific needs. For example, users can personalize an existing document editing assistant app to include a document summary feature. By modifying and publishing their own versions of apps, users can quickly scale their productivity and adapt shared applications.
New features added after the preview include the ability to specify data sources at the card level to improve answer accuracy and an Amazon Q Application API for programmatically managing applications. Amazon Q Apps is available in East US (N. Virginia) and West US (Oregon) regions with an Amazon Business Pro subscription.
