Amazon today announced the new Amazon Web Services (AWS) IoT TwinMaker, a service designed to make it easier for developers to create digital twins of real-time systems such as buildings, factories, industrial plants, and product lines. In addition, the company presented AWS IoT FleetWise, an offer that supposedly makes it easier and cheaper for car manufacturers to collect, transform and transfer vehicle data in the cloud in almost real time.

Simulation approaches of the “digital twin” have established themselves in other domains. For example, London-based SenSat helps clients in the construction, mining, energy and other industries create site models for projects they are working on.
